LA ZONA Sangiovese 2018
Made from the prized ‘Jacko’s Block’ vineyard in the King Valley, this wine has a lush cherry red, medium intensity colour. Dark cherry and berry fruit with a herbal background. Baked cherries with toasted oak backed up with characteristic savoury tannins.
COLOUR: Cherry red with light to medium intensity.
AROMA: Black cherry, prune and berries combined with spicy, coconut oak.
PALATE: Prune and cherry combine with cinnamon and cedar oak flavours
supported by moderate acidity and Sangiovese’s classic savoury tannins.
“The grapes are crushed and fermented in two batches; one on skins for 14
days before being drained off, and the other fermented and left on skins for an
extra four weeks extended maceration. These two variations help to enhance
and exhibit the classic savoury sangiovese tannins. The new wine is then
drained and gently pressed into new (30%) and older French oak hogsheads for
malolactic fermentation and 15 months maturation before being blended and
prepared for bottling. The wine is then released after an extra twelve to eighteen
months age in bottle.” Warren Proft, winemaker
