LA ZONA Sagrantino 2016
After years of successfully evolving Tuscany’s treasured Sangiovese in the King Valley, Chrismont introduced the variety’s neighbouring partner from Umbria, Sagrantino, into its La Zona range of innovative varietals championed by Chrismont. A bold variety, with inky colour and rich tannins that have been tempered by Chrismont winemaker Warren Proft with new and one-year-old French barriques.
COLOUR: Cherry red and crimson hues.
AROMA: Red currants, prune plums, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.
PALATE: Full-bodied with generous fruit flavours of ripe plums, cherries, blackberries and spice, combine with legendary tannins, giving length to the finish, and an incredible ageing potential.
“Grapes are crushed and fermented in two batches; one on skins for seven days and the other for 30 days, before being drained into barrels to complete primary and malolactic fermentation. The new wine is then racked into new and older French oak barriques for 18 months maturation before being blended and prepared for bottling. The wine is released after an extra six to twelve months age in bottle.” Warren Proft, winemaker
An ideal match to braised goat and caramelized onion ravioli, with creamy leek, tomato and walnut sauce, and fried sage.
