The Chrismont name is a celebration of the memory of two important people to Arnie’s family. In 1977, Arnie’s oldest sister Christine, and her friend from nursing school, Jill Montgomery, had both just turned 21. Each had recently accepted positions at North East Base Hospital in Wangaratta.

One fateful night while returning to Wangaratta, they were killed in a car accident.

When the vineyards were established in 1980, the name Chrismont was chosen as a lasting tribute to two young women with promising futures whose lives unfortunately were cut short.
